Preventing Body Dissatisfaction
Body dissatisfaction has far reaching consequences for our children. Children who experience body dissatisfaction are likely to struggle with their body through adolescence and adulthood. These children are more likely to suffer emotionally, socially, academically, behaviourally, and physically.
Body dissatisfaction is the most robust known risk factor in the development of Eating Disorders and Obesity.
Raising Body-Confident Kids is an educational, prevention program for parents, educators and children. It is designed to prevent or reduce the impact of body dissatisfaction amongst children by providing information and skills that foster resilience and body contentment in the home and school environment.
The Raising Body-Confident Kids program can be delivered across a range of settings and is suitable for boys and girls;
- Individual work with families in my Bondi Junction clinic (sessions with parents, children, and collaborative sessions with parents and children)
- A group of families wanting to do the program together in my Bondi Junction clinic (sessions with parents, children, and collaborative sessions with parents and children)
- At school (sessions with students, teachers and parents)
Outpatient treatment for eating disorders
Through her masters degree Ariana was trained in the provision of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and has since explored a range of psychotherapeutic techniques specifically in her studies of the conversational model of psychoanalytic psychotherapy (ANZAP) as well as the last 15 years of clinical supervision by a senior Jungian psychoanalyst who specialises in the treatment of eating disorders.
CBT is a structured psychological therapy aimed at identifying and changing one’s unhelpful thoughts and beliefs so as to improve our feelings and choices in actions. It also utilises behavioural experiments to test the reality of our thoughts and beliefs, structured problem solving techniques, thought monitoring forms, and chain analysis strategies to assist in recognising unhelpful patterns of thoughts, feelings and actions.
Psychodynamic and emotional based therapies explore how our past affects our present, how past emotions may still be driving present day decisions, and how we can gradually free ourselves from these patterns.
